The Financial Management Course was held at NBCLC in Bangalore from August 31 to September 7,
2025, was a comprehensive, eight-day training program that empowered 48 members from various religious
congregations with essential financial management and legal compliance skills. This course was with the
collaboration of its kind between the NBCLC and St. Joseph’s College, marking a significant milestone for
both institutions. Each day of the course began with Morning Prayer and Holy Mass, providing a spiritual
foundation for the intellectual and professional learning that followed.
Day 1: Inauguration and Foundational Concepts
The course commenced with a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony at 9:15 a.m., attended by esteemed
dignitaries. Fr. John Baptist, the Director of NBCLC, extended a warm welcome to the gathering. He
introduced the Principal of St. Joseph's College, Fr. Dr. Charles Louis Lasrado, the Assistant Director of
NBCLC, Fr. Nyson, the Vice Principal of St. Joseph's College, Mrs. Ruksana, and the session's
coordinator, Miss Sanjana. Fr. Nyson provided an overview of the program’s objectives. Fr. Dr. Charles
Louis Lasrado highlighted the significance of the partnership with NBCLC, noting that it opened new
avenues for learning. The academic sessions began with Mr. Thomas, who covered Professional Writing
and Documentation, followed by Mr. Vinay Kambipura, who discussed Intra-Organizational
Communication. In the afternoon, CA Jacob George facilitated a session on Organizational Structures
for Trusts, Societies, and NGOs in India, providing a strong foundation for the days ahead.
Day 2: Financial Planning and Internal Controls
The second day started with Holy Mass. The morning sessions was led by Ms. Sumithra Sreenivasan and
Ms. Maria Sanjana. The first session focused on Financial Planning, teaching participants how to
carefully manage resources for institutional growth. The second session covered Internal Controls and
Asset Management, emphasizing the protection and responsible use of an organization’s resources. In the
afternoon, Mr. Asad Pasha took two sessions, the first on the Roles and Responsibilities of an
Accountant and the second on the Functions of an Accounts Department, explaining its crucial role in an
institution’s smooth operation.
Day 3: Accounting for NPOs and Company Law
This day began with morning prayer and Holy Mass. Dr. Suganthi Pais and Dr. Veenu Joy led the morning
session on Accounting for Non-Profit Organizations (NPOs), helping participants understand the
specialized accounting methods required for non-profits. The afternoon session, also led by the same
resource persons, introduced participants to the key aspects of Company Law and its relation to the
financial and legal responsibilities of an organization. The day was graced by the presence of Bishop Pauly
Kannookkadan, Chairman of NBCLC, whose visit and words of encouragement were a special blessing.
Day 4: Contributions and Campus Visit
Bishop Pauly Kannookkadan celebrated the Holy Mass in the Syro-Malabar rite. He also officially
inaugurated the NBCLC's Online Bible Class. The academic sessions continued with Dr. Suganthi Pais and
Dr. Veenu Joy, who led a practical session on Accounting for Internal and External Contributions. The
afternoon was a highlight, as participants were invited to a campus tour of St. Joseph's College of
Commerce. The group was welcomed warmly by the college management, who shared their annual report
and achievements. The day concluded with a visit to the nearby shrine at Shivaji Nagar, which added a
spiritual dimension to the experience.
Day 5: NPO Management and Sustainability
The fifth day’s sessions were led by Dr. Komal A. Dave and Mr. Mohammad Ashfaque. The morning
sessions focused on the practicalities of establishing and managing an NPO and donation-related
requirements. The afternoon shifted to a forward-looking perspective, with discussions on the long-term
sustainability of mission-driven organizations and legal compliance concerning employees, providing
practical guidance for organizational growth.
Day 6: FCRA and Asset Compliance
This day was a dual celebration of Teachers’ Day and Onam, creating a festive and joyful atmosphere. The
sessions, led by CA George Jacob, provided in-depth knowledge on FCRA (Foreign Contribution
Regulation Act) and Asset, Land, and Construction Compliance. The afternoon session covered the
practical aspects of FCRA administration and asset management, which offered clear, practical insights.
Day 7: Banking and Risk Management
The seventh day's sessions, led by Ms. Asha Joseph and Ms. Jenny John, focused on modern financial
practices. The morning inputs covered the essentials of banking, lending, treasury management, and
digital banking. The afternoon session provided essential knowledge on insurance, risk management, and
compliance, equipping participants to strengthen their institutions' financial practices.
Day 8: Taxation and Valedictory Function
The final day began with a Holy Mass celebrated by Fr. Nyson , who spoke on the importance of integrity in
financial stewardship. The academic sessions, led by CA George Jacob and his team, provided practical
insights into Tax Deducted at Source (TDS), including its provisions and compliance obligations. The
course concluded with a Valedictory Function. Dignitaries, including Fr. Dr. Charles Louise Lasrado and
Fr. John Baptist, congratulated the participants and encouraged them to apply their new skills with
professionalism. A highlight of the ceremony was the distribution of certificates, marking the successful
completion of the training. The participants left enriched with knowledge and grateful for the eight-day
journey of learning, collaboration, and growth.
