"Modern media and the internet are gifts of God that offer unparalleled opportunities for solidarity and encounter across the globe."

Sixteen participants from different parts of India gathered at NBCLC, Bangalore, from 19th to 23rd May 2026 for the Media Education Workshop titled “The Dynamics of the Information Era: Opportunities and Challenges” The workshop was animated by Rev. Fr. Dr. A. Stephen Martin, SJ, who guided participants through critical understanding of the post-modern world of media and communication.

The highly interactive sessions combined with theory, discussion, and practical learning. Applying the concepts of Media Education, the participants explored the history and development of media, media language behind photography and videography techniques, camera distances and camera viewpoints, and the role of visual communication in today's society. Special sessions on fake news and deepfake technology enabled participants to critically evaluate information and recognize misinformation in the digital age.

The sessions also focused on critical analysis of social media videos, social video apps, television serials, cinema climax scenes, media ownership, and the influence of media on public opinion. Discussions on New media psychology focusing technostress, nomophobia, and the impact of media on mental health encouraged participants to reflect on responsible media usage and its effects on personal well- being.

A significant part of the programme explored the constructive role of Church’s engagement with media and studied the document of Inter Mirifica and various teachings of the Church on social communication. Participants were encouraged to examine the role of media in shaping culture, politics, and values in contemporary society. Rev. Sr. Santhus FSAG enriched the programme with sessions on Artificial Intelligence and its growing significance in the dynamics of communication and media. Participants also gained insights on advertising strategies and the persuasive techniques used by print and digital media to influence consumers.

The Director, Rev. Fr. Dr. John Baptist, appreciated the dedicated service of the resource persons and the active involvement of the participants. He encouraged everyone to become resource persons of Media education in their own ministries and use media effectively for the service of the Church and society.

The course concluded with audio-visual advertisement analysis, discussions on future media trends, and an evaluation session. Participants expressed gratitude for the enriching and transformative experience, which strengthened their media literacy, critical thinking, and commitment to responsible communication.
