At the Foot of the Cross: A Lenten Marian Retreat of Profound Renewal

March 12th to 16th, 2024

From March 12th to 16th, 2024, the National Biblical Catechetical and Liturgical Centre (NBCLC) became a sanctuary of spiritual contemplation, hosting a deeply moving Lenten Marian Retreat. Under the insightful guidance of Rev. Fr. Jaison Thundathil CSSR, members of five religious congregations and dedicated lay faithful embarked on a journey of interior transformation, focusing on the poignant image of Mary at the foot of the cross.

This retreat was not merely a series of reflections; it was a profound immersion into the theological depths of Mary's role in salvation history. Fr. Jaison masterfully explored key Church teachings, illuminating the significance of Mary's unwavering presence during Christ's Passion. He skillfully wove together scripture and tradition, enriching participants' understanding of Mary's unique relationship with her Son.

Beyond intellectual exploration, the retreat emphasized the practical dimensions of spiritual growth. Fr. Jaison underscored the transformative power of confession, the life-giving grace of the Eucharistic celebration, the contemplative practice of adoration, and the meditative rhythm of the Rosary. He encouraged participants to cultivate a deeper and more intimate personal prayer life, fostering a profound connection with both Jesus and Mary.

The retreat's overarching aim was to provide a sacred space for spiritual renewal, a time for participants to draw closer to Christ through the intercession of His mother. The peaceful and serene atmosphere of NBCLC provided the perfect backdrop for this journey of interior and exterior silence.

Participants expressed deep satisfaction with the retreat's content and the overall experience. They highlighted the profound spiritual impact of Fr. Jaison's teachings, the tranquility of NBCLC, and the invaluable opportunity for quiet reflection. Feedback consistently emphasized the retreat's success in providing a truly transformative Lenten experience, strengthening participants' commitment to their consecrated lives and deepening their devotion to Mary, the Mother of God. This Lenten Marian Retreat served as a powerful reminder of the enduring power of faith, the transformative grace of Lent, and the unwavering love of Mary, our Mother.
