Lay Leadership & Mission in the Church

The Malayalam Laity Seminar 2026 was held successfully at NBCLC, Bangalore, from 15 to 21 April 2026 under the theme “Lay Leadership & Mission in the Church.” The seminar brought together 71 delegates from 20 dioceses within and outside Kerala, providing a valuable platform for formation, reflection, and fellowship among lay leaders and committed faithful. The programme was inaugurated by Rev. Dr. John Baptist, Director of NBCLC, who emphasized the vital role of the laity in the Church’s mission and their responsibility to witness Christ in society. The opening day also featured an inspiring presentation by Rev. Fr. Nysson Luka on the Arunachal Mission Experience, offering participants a deeper understanding of missionary challenges and opportunities.

Throughout the week, participants engaged in enriching sessions on lay leadership, social involvement, missionary discipleship, media and evangelization, pastoral participation, mission activities, and responsible Christian engagement in public life. Eminent resource persons, including Dr. K. M. Francis, Rev. Fr.Dr. Nysson Luka, Rev. Fr. Francis Karekkat SDB, Mr. Johnson T. M., Mr. Sebastian Thomas, Mr. Joseph Jude, and Mr. Biju Jossey, shared valuable insights and practical guidance. The concluding session was led by Most Rev. Dr. Mar Pauly Kannookadan, Chairman of NBCLC, who presented a comprehensive vision of lay leadership in the contemporary Church and encouraged participants to become active agents of renewal and mission.

In addition to the academic sessions, the seminar was enriched by daily Eucharistic celebrations, prayer services, Eucharistic Adoration, Rosary, group discussions, cultural programmes, and fellowship activities. These experiences fostered spiritual growth, deeper ecclesial communion, and a stronger commitment to the Church’s mission. The seminar concluded with an evaluation session, distribution of certificates, and a valedictory gathering. Participants expressed gratitude for the enriching experience, which strengthened their faith, pastoral vision, and missionary zeal. The Malayalam Laity Seminar 2026 successfully empowered lay faithful to assume greater leadership and responsibility in the life and mission of the Church and society.
