Kannada Laity Leadership Program


The Laity Leadership Program, held at the National Biblical Catechetical and Liturgical Centre (NBCLC) in Bangalore from May 19 to 23, 2025, successfully brought together 37 lay participants from four dioceses across Karnataka: Bangalore, Chikkamagaluru, Mangalore, and Belagavi.

The program was centered around the theme: “Leadership of the Laity in the Church and Society in the Synodal Context of the Church in Karnataka.” Its primary goal was to deepen the understanding and role of the laity within both the Church and broader society, particularly in the ongoing Synodal journey.

The seamless coordination by Fr. Mexim and the NBCLC team ensured a smooth and enriching experience for all attendees.

Participation
The program proudly welcomed 37 participants Archdiocese of Bangalore: 29 participants
Diocese of Chikkamagaluru: 3 participants
Diocese of Mangalore: 1 participant
Diocese of Belagavi: 2 participants

Key Highlights
The program was distinguished by its comprehensive content and expert delivery:

13 subjects were covered, each expertly delivered by 13 distinguished resource persons.

The keynote address was delivered by Rev. Fr. Anil Joel Prasad, setting a profound and forward-looking tone for the sessions.

Rev. fr. John Baptist the director of NBCLC inaugurated the programm. Fr. Nyson was present.

A wide range of theological, social, and practical topics were addressed, including:

Biblical Scriptures and the Mission of the Church
Vatican II Documents and Lay Participation
Social Teachings of the Church
The Indian Constitution and Democratic Values
Role of Laity in Media and Communication
Women's Empowerment in the Church and Society
Formation and Role of Basic Ecclesial Communities (BECs)
Youth and Youth Movements
Synodal Church and Participatory Structures
Family Movements and the Role of Catechesis

Program Structure
The five-day program featured a dynamic and engaging structure, fostering both learning and community spirit:
Interactive talks and input sessions by experienced clergy, theologians, and lay experts.
Group discussions and presentations to promote reflection and collaboration.
Debates and panel discussions focusing on constitutional values and Church roles.
Cultural programs, games, and creative activities to enhance fellowship and community spirit.
Daily Holy Mass, prayer services, and moments of spiritual reflection.

Conclusion
The Laity Leadership Program stands as a significant milestone in strengthening lay leadership and fostering synodality at the grassroots level in Karnataka. As the Church continues its Synodal journey, programs such as this play a pivotal role in forming informed, engaged, and mission-oriented laity.
