From July 20th to 27th, 2024, NBCLC became a nurturing ground for compassionate care, hosting an intensive counselling course that drew approximately 30 participants. Under the expert guidance of Sr. Reshma Fernandes UFS and Sr. Juliana UFS, the course provided a comprehensive foundation in both the practical skills and theoretical knowledge essential for effective counselling.
Sr. Reshma's sessions focused on the foundational aspects of counselling, emphasizing the importance of self-awareness and effective communication. Participants explored ethical counselling practices, ensuring they understood the principles of confidentiality and professional conduct. She also introduced a variety of therapeutic techniques, including Erickson's psychosocial stages, Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT), and dream analysis, providing participants with a diverse toolkit for addressing client needs.
Building on this foundation, Sr. Juliana led sessions that delved deeper into the psychological underpinnings of counselling. Participants engaged in observation exercises, honing their ability to discern subtle cues and understand client behavior. Sr. Juliana also provided a thorough overview of the counselling process, from establishing rapport and conducting assessments to developing and implementing effective interventions.
The course was not merely theoretical; it was highly practical and experiential. Participants actively engaged in role-playing exercises, allowing them to practice their counselling skills in a safe and supportive environment. Case studies provided opportunities to apply their knowledge to real-life scenarios, while art therapy sessions offered a creative and expressive outlet for both personal and client exploration.
The overarching aim of the course was to provide participants with a comprehensive foundation in counselling, empowering them to support individuals in need with compassion, empathy, and professional competence. Participants left NBCLC equipped with the tools and understanding necessary to make a positive impact on the lives of others, fostering healing and growth within their communities. This counselling course was a testament to NBCLC's commitment to equipping individuals with the skills needed to provide vital support and care to those in need.
