The National Biblical Catechetical and Liturgical Centre (NBCLC) in India hosted an Ash
Wednesday program on March 5, 2025. Approximately 150 people attended, including priests,
religious, and formees.
The program was held on Ash Wednesday, which marks the beginning of Lent, a significant 40-day
period of penitential preparation for Easter in the Christian liturgical calendar. Lent is a time for
reflection, repentance, and spiritual growth, as Christians prepare their hearts and minds for the
celebration of Jesus Christ's resurrection on Easter Sunday.
"The day's schedule at NBCLC included several key spiritual activities. Participants attended a talk
by Fr. Biju CMI from St. John’s. Bangalore. The program also provided opportunities for
confession, allowing individuals to seek reconciliation. Central to the observance was the
celebration of Mass (Holy Eucharist), and attendees participated in the Way of the Cross (Stations of
the Cross), a traditional Lenten devotion."
Participants observed fasting, a traditional Lenten practice involving abstaining from certain foods
or activities for self-discipline and spiritual focus.
The NBCLC program provided an opportunity for attendees to deepen their understanding of the
Lenten season and engage in these practices. The NBCLC is a renowned institution for theological
studies and liturgical practices, making this event a valuable opportunity for spiritual growth and
enrichment.
